Crop Production
Grant County is located in the Southwest corner of Kansas approximately 30 miles from the Colorado line to the west and 30 miles from the Oklahoma border to the south. At the altitude of 3057 feet above sea level and receiving 17 inches of annual rainfall, the 305,000 acres in farms relies heavily on irrigation. Currently around 156,900 acres of major crops of Wheat, Corn, Grain Sorghum, and Alfalfa. Cropping history of the county also includes commercial production of tomatoes, cucumbers, cantaloupe and sugar beets.
Soil Samples
A basic soil sample is $11 to mail and process. Payments can be made with a check or cash. Checks can be made out to Grant County Extension. Each sample should be legibly marked with the sample ID, location name or a number. Information sheets must be completed before sending sample out. Please call our offices if you have any questions.
