Agriculture in Grant County

Grant County, located in the High Plains of southwest Kansas, has deep agricultural roots dating back to its settlement in the late 1800s.

Today, agriculture drives the local economy with nearly 800,000 acres in production. Wheat, corn, sorghum and alfalfa, are key crops, but livestock dominates—home to more than 180,000 cattle and one of the largest feedlots in the nation. About 16% of the workforce is tied directly to farming and ranching.

Grant County agriculture reflects resilience, adaptation, and innovation. From early homesteads to modern large-scale farms, it continues to shape both the economy and the diverse community that calls this region home.
