Grant County with its 7,552 residents is located in the Southwest corner of Kansas approximately 30 miles from the Colorado line to the west and 30 miles from the Oklahoma border to the south. The county elevation is around 3000 feet above sea level and it annually averages 17 inches of rainfall. There are 300 farms utilizing 305,000 acres of land including 156,000 harvested acres of crops, 184,000 head of cattle, one commercial dairy with 5000 head of milking cows, and large commercial swine production including nursery and finishing units. The value of harvested crops approximates $45 to $50 million dollars annually with the value of livestock and livestock products including milk range near $125 to $130 million dollars per year.
